The history of Carryduff GAC

In 1971, Carryduff GAC was formed. It all started with some parents that were concerned about a lack of playing facilities, so together, they formed a schoolboys team. The main people that really made the club happen were Harry McEvoy, Paddy McEvoy and Martin McAteer, then within a few years, it had became a full G.A.A club that was entered in the East Down League. The progress was brilliant in this decade, as Carryduff were turning out to be one of the best teams in County Down.

The club did reach Division 2 in 1981, but it was not until the mid-eighties that it reached Division 1 with the help of great players including John Kelly and Mark McCartan. Four of Carryduff's great players: Neil Collins, Greg Blaney, Mark McCartan and John Kelly featured in Down's All-Ireland brilliant accomplishments.
